3 children murdered

Bodies of three children were recovered from Tangail and Rangpur yesterday.

All three kids had been kidnapped, according to their families.

The dead are Shakil Miah, 11, son of Delwar Hossain; Imran Hossain, 12, son of Abu Bakkar of Char Chowhat village in Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka; and Rahimul Islam, Rawnak, 4, son of Mosaddek Hossain Ranga of Adarshapara area in Rangpur city.

Quoting police, our Tangail correspondent reports that the boys went missing after they had gone to nearby Haria High School in Tangail's Mirzapur upazila around Wednesday noon to watch the annual sports competition.

The next day, the kidnappers called the families over the phone and demanded Tk 1 lakh as ransom for their release, Mirzapur Police Station's Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Moin Uddin, quoting Dhamrai police, told The Daily Star.

They two were class-IV students of Balia Brac School.

Around 5:45pm yesterday, a team of Mirzapur police recovered their bodies from a lemon orchard after being informed by locals.

Their throats were slit, police said, adding that their bodies were kept at the police station and would be handed over to their families after autopsies.

RANGPUR

Rawnak's body was recovered from a paddy field at Tekanipara village in Mithapukur upazila last night, around two months after he was allegedly kidnapped from in front of his house.

Police said villagers found the body in the paddy field around 9:30pm and informed Mithapukur police about it.

Later, police recovered the body and took it to the police station.

Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Mithapukur Police Station, told The Daily Star, “The body bore several injury marks.”

The body was sent to Rangpur Medical College morgue for an autopsy, he added.

Family members claimed that Mobasser Alam, 40, a cousin of Rawnak's father, kidnapped the boy while he was playing in front of his house around noon on December 1 last year. Mobasser had a financial dispute with Ranga.

Ranga filed a general dairy with Rangpur Kotwali Police Station the same day and lodged an abduction case, accusing Mobasser, on December 3.

 Mobasser had gone into hiding following the incident, police said.
