Biman flight suffers tyre burst while taking off

Fifty minutes after take-off, a Rajshahi-bound domestic flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines yesterday returned to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport as one of its tyres burst.

The flight, BG491, carrying 72 passengers and four cabin crew members, took off around 2:00pm, but after a few minutes, the control tower at the airport informed the pilot of the tyre burst.

After hovering around 50 minutes in the sky, the flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport as it had better emergency services than the Rajshahi airport, Biman Bangladesh Airlines General Manager Shakil Meraj (public relations) told The Daily Star.

"No one was hurt," he said, adding that the burst tyre was replaced, and the passengers were provided with hotel and food.

The passengers would be flown to Rajshahi at the same time today, Shakil added.
