Digitised system opens at Ctg port Dec 27
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate Container Terminal Management System (CTMS), the modern digitised system of container handling, at the country's principal seaport in Chittagong on December 27.
Officials said all preparations for the CTMS have been completed, including development of infrastructure, installation of adequate logistic supports, updating of existing taxation procedure, on-line billing system, stacking, tracking, delivery and gate controlling system.
The premier is due to inaugurate the system by pressing a laptop's key at the port auditorium at 2:30pm.
Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Secretary Sayed Farhad Uddin said with the introduction of CTMS, all the operational activities of the port will be maintained through online system.
He hoped that the container handling capacity of the port would be double the present rate.
Port sources said during the previous fiscal year, the Chittagong Port handled more than 14 lakh twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEUs) of container. The CPA secretary expected that after the introduction of CTMS, the handling capacity will rise to 21 lakh TEUs of container in the current fiscal year.
