4 killed in bus-Laguna crash in Cox’s Bazar

At least 5 others seriously injured in head-on collision on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway

Four passengers of a Laguna were killed and at least five others seriously injured when a bus hit it in Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar this morning.

The accident occurred around 6:30am on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway, near Nayapara Baitul Mamur Jame Mosque in Khutakhali union of the upazila, said Sub-Inspector Mohammad Samsuzzaman, in charge of Malumghat Highway Police Outpost.

The deceased were identified as Md Jasim Uddin, 25, of Segunbagicha in Khutakhali; Md Shahed, 27, of Phulchhari Shiapara; Mohammad Rafiq, 28, of Eidgaon; and Md Jiabul Haque, 25, of Khutakhali.

Police and locals said a bus of Lal Sobuj Paribahan, travelling towards Cox's Bazar from Noakhali Sadar, collided head-on with the Laguna, which was carrying passengers from Eidgaon towards Chakaria.

The impact left the Laguna badly mangled, with several passengers trapped inside and critically injured.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital and Christian Memorial Hospital in Malumghat. Shahed, Rafiq and Jiabul Haque died while undergoing treatment at Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, while Jasim Uddin succumbed to his injuries at Christian Memorial Hospital.

SI Samsuzzaman said the bodies were handed over to the families after completion of the necessary legal procedures.

Police seized both the bus and the Laguna involved in the crash, and further legal action is underway, he added.
