Former cantonment OC remanded again

A Dhaka court yesterday placed Md Rakibul Hasan, former officer-in-charge of Dhaka Cantonment Police Station, on a fresh two-day remand in a sedition case over allegations of spreading anti-state and provocative statements on social media.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ishrat Jahan passed the order after the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) produced inspector Rakibul before the court with a fresh three-day remand prayer, Additional Public Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsud Doha Sumon said.

Defence lawyer Morshed Hossain Shahin said a bail petition was filed for Rakibul, but the court rejected it.

On September 24, Rakibul was put on a five-day remand in the case.

Earlier in that day, Subrata Debnath, an inspector of Cantonment Police Station, filed the case against Rakibul and four to five unnamed persons under sections 124A and 153 of the Penal Code.

Later, Rakibul was arrested in Dhaka in connection with the case.
