A 35-year-old man was killed by unidentified assailants in Kaunia upazila of Rangpur last night.
Police recovered the body of Abu Siddique, a resident of Pallimari Haker Bazar area in Char Chatura village, from a road around 10:30pm.
Siddique, who was involved in the food business, had left his home in Char Chatura village for nearby Milon Bazar in Lalmonirhat Sadar.
According to his uncle Mojmul Haque, Siddique was sitting in a field and arguing with someone over the phone when unidentified assailants allegedly attacked him with sharp weapons and slit his throat.
They then left his body in a secluded area, he said.
It was not immediately known who Siddique had been arguing with or what had triggered the dispute.

“Police have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the murder and identify those involved,” he said.
No case had been filed in connection with the incident as of this morning, police said.
Investigators are questioning Siddique’s relatives and local residents and examining his phone records and recent communications to determine whether they were linked to the killing.
