‘Joy Bangla’ slogan allegation: 27 sent to jail after yesterday’s Jasod office raid

A Dhaka court today sent 27 people to jail following their arrest yesterday at the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasod) office in connection with a general diary alleging that they had created unrest while chanting “Joy Bangla.”

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order after police produced them before the court seeking their detention, a sub-inspector said.

According to a police forwarding report, the accused created disorder inside Jasod’s central office while chanting slogans. With the assistance of police officers and locals present, they were detained around 4:10pm.

According to the report, “Upon questioning, the accused could not give any satisfactory explanation as to why they had come to the scene. It is initially suspected that the accused may have been involved in a cognisable offence.”

289 detained at Jasod office over alleged AL links

Yesterday, a group led by central Jubo Dal leader Rabiul Islam Nayan took position in front of the Jasod office while the party was holding a central representative meeting. Nayan claimed some attendees were linked to the Awami League, whose activities are currently banned.

Police later detained around 289 people, mostly Jasod leaders and activists, from the party office. Of them, 252 were released today, police officials said.
