Three killed in ‘gunfight’ between UPDF, JSS

Three people have been killed in an alleged gunfight between the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF-Prasit) and the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS-Santu Larma) in Khagrachhari, police said.

The incident took place yesterday afternoon in the Madhu Mangal Para area of Chengi union under Panchari upazila.

Panchari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Ferdous Wahid told The Daily Star that the rival groups exchanged gunfire over territorial dominance, leaving three people dead.

He said the identities of the deceased had yet to be confirmed, adding that a police team had been sent to recover the bodies.

Neither UPDF nor JSS immediately commented on the incident.

Last year on July 25, four people were killed in a reported exchange of gunfire between the two regional armed groups in the district’s Dighinala upazila, police had said.
