1,000 flood-affected families receive IOM aid in Ctg, Cox’s Bazar

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) today distributed emergency relief among 1,000 families affected by recent monsoon floods in Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar.

The assistance included emergency shelter materials and food support for families whose homes and livelihoods were damaged by flooding, according to an IOM statement.

In Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram, the UN migration agency distributed tarpaulins to 500 families, enabling them to secure temporary shelter and protect their belongings.

In Pekua upazila of Cox’s Bazar, another 500 flood-affected families received emergency food assistance along with tarpaulins. Each family was given 10kg of rice, 2kg lentils, 1kg salt, 1 litre edible oil and one tarpaulin.

The relief distribution was carried out in coordination with local authorities to ensure that assistance reached the most vulnerable households.

The agency said many parts of the country continue to experience heavy monsoon rainfall, leaving communities inundated, damaging homes and infrastructure, and disrupting access to essential services. For many affected families, emergency shelter and food assistance are the first steps towards recovery.
