President Mirza Fakhrul’s brother among 3 seeking BNP ticket for Thakurgaon-1 by-poll
Three BNP leaders, including President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s younger brother Mirza Faisal Amin, have collected party nomination forms to contest the Thakurgaon-1 by-election.
The other two aspirants are Obaidullah Masud and Sultanul Ferdous Chowdhury.
The three collected nomination forms from the BNP central office in Dhaka's Nayapaltan today, confirmed BNP media cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan.
They must submit the completed forms by September 16. The BNP National Standing Committee, acting as the party’s nomination board, will meet on September 18 to select the final candidate.
The Thakurgaon-1 parliamentary seat became vacant after former BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir became President. The Election Commission has scheduled the by-election for October 29.
Of the three nomination seekers, Faisal Amin is president of the Thakurgaon district BNP and a former mayor of Thakurgaon municipality.
Obaidullah Masud and Sultanul Ferdous Chowdhury are vice-presidents of the district BNP.
Masud is a former Chhatra Dal leader and previously served as vice-president and general secretary of the Thakurgaon Government College Students’ Union. Sultanul Ferdous is a former chairman of the Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila Parishad and once general secretary of the Thakurgaon district Jatiya Party.
