Bangladesh Emerging team reach tri-series final

Bangladesh Emerging Team reached the final of the ongoing tri-series in South Africa after defeating University Sport South Africa (USSA) by seven wickets in their third match at Irene Country Club in Centurion on Friday.

Opting to field, pacer Chowdhury Rizwan starred with 4-28, while Rohanat Doullah Borson and Aminul Islam Biplob took two wickets each as Bangladesh bowled USSA out for 166 in 33.5 overs.

David Teeger top-scored with 72 off 57 balls and Ludwich Schuld made 51 off 57 deliveries as the pair added 119 runs for the second wicket. However, USSA collapsed after the partnership, losing their remaining nine wickets for just 40 runs.

Bangladesh also lost both openers early in the chase, but captain Shahadat Hossain Dipu’s unbeaten 73 off 56 balls and Irfaan Shukkur’s unbeaten 58 off 39 deliveries guided them to the target in 21.5 overs.

The win secured Bangladesh’s place in the final after they had earlier beaten USSA by 26 runs via the DLS method. They had started the tournament with a seven-wicket defeat to South Africa emerging team after being bowled out for 89.

Bangladesh will face South Africa emerging team in their final league-stage match at Tuks Oval in Pretoria on Sunday, effectively a dress rehearsal for the final, which will also be held at the same venue on August 12.
