Hasan keen on picking Anderson's brains next time they meet
Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud enjoyed a dream debut for Kent County Cricket Club, stealing the headlines with a remarkable nine-wicket haul in his first appearance for the English county side.
The right-arm seamer also had the opportunity to share the field with legendary England fast bowler Sir James Anderson during the match. However, Hasan did not get the chance to have a detailed conversation with the veteran after the game and is now hoping to do so when their paths cross again.
Speaking to freelance cricket journalist Tawhid Qureshi in an interview for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Hasan reflected on his brief interaction with Anderson.
"We didn't really talk during the match, but we shook hands and exchanged pleasantries after the game. Since they lost, I thought it was best not to disturb him further, so I didn't approach him separately. Moreover, he left the field a bit early. I will definitely try to speak with him the next time we meet," Hasan said.
The 25-year-old believes playing county cricket in England, particularly with the Duke ball in seam- and swing-friendly conditions, will be a valuable learning experience.
Highlighting the contrast between conditions in England and Bangladesh, Hasan said: "The conditions are completely different. In Bangladesh, the pitches tend to be a bit slow or turning, and the weather is hot. Here, the wickets are fast and bouncy, with plenty of seam movement and swing. There is also an obvious difference in the balls used—we play with the Kookaburra back home, whereas the Duke ball is used here."
Hasan revealed that he made slight adjustments to his lengths to suit the English conditions.
"The key difference from Bangladesh is that you have to bowl a bit fuller to extract swing. Batters find it uncomfortable when the new ball swings from a fuller length. I tried to bowl as full as possible while maintaining my line and swing," he explained.
The pacer is now eager to carry the lessons from his county stint into Bangladesh's upcoming tour of Australia.
"This is obviously a massive opportunity for me to play a Test match for Bangladesh against Australia on their own soil, so I am very excited. We, the bowlers in our attack, will definitely try to dominate there," he added.
