ICC delegation meets former directors of Bulbul-led board
Two International Cricket Council (ICC) Board representatives -- Dr Mohammed Moosajee of Cricket South Africa and Tavengwa Mukuhlani of Zimbabwe Cricket -- met four former directors of the Aminul Islam Bulbul-led board at a city hotel on Tuesday.
The former directors -- M. Najmul Islam, Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury Zaman, Asif Akbar and Md Hasanuzzaman -- were accompanied by their legal counsel, Advocate Mokarramus Shaklan.
Following the meeting, the Aminul Islam Bulbul-led committee issued a press release stating that it had urged the ICC not to recognise any election conducted by or under the authority of the ad hoc committee on June 7 or at any other time. According to the statement, no such election can be considered a legitimate and autonomous BCB election while the ad hoc committee's legal status remains under challenge before the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and while the ICC's own investigation into alleged governmental interference is ongoing.
The committee also claimed that a press release issued on May 31 by the media department of the "so-called" BCB ad hoc committee was misleading in two critical and material respects and should be corrected in the public interest.
The May 31 BCB statement said: "The BCB also understands that a delegation from the ICC is expected to visit Bangladesh in the coming days. During the visit, the delegation is likely to engage with relevant stakeholders associated with the election process and collect information to brief the ICC Board."
However, the Bulbul-led committee claimed that the ICC delegation was not in Bangladesh in connection with any election process undertaken by the ad hoc committee. It also asserted that the ICC representatives were not serving as election observers.
Earlier, the National Sports Council (NSC) dissolved the Aminul Islam Bulbul-led board on April 7 based on the findings of a five-member probe committee. The move was taken under Section 21 of the NSC's 2018 policy, which allows action against any sports body under its jurisdiction if irregularities are proven.
On the same day, the NSC appointed former national captain Tamim Iqbal as head of an 11-member ad hoc committee.
