Sooryavanshi smashes fastest List A half-century
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi shattered a 21-year-old record for the fastest half-century in List A cricket, reaching the milestone in just 11 balls while playing for India A against Sri Lanka A in the tri-series final on Sunday.
The 15-year-old prodigy produced a breathtaking knock of 94 off only 29 deliveries, showcasing his extraordinary power-hitting ahead of his expected India debut later this month.
In doing so, he broke the previous record of a 12-ball fifty set by Sri Lanka's Kaushalya Weeraratne in 2005.
Sooryavanshi came agonisingly close to registering the joint-fastest List A century but fell short when he was caught at mid-off in the ninth over with India A's score on 132. His explosive innings featured 10 fours and eight towering sixes.
He raced to his record-breaking fifty with five boundaries and five sixes, tearing apart the Sri Lankan bowling attack. After failing to convert his starts into a big score during the league phase, the young batter arrived in the final with clear intent.
The teenage sensation was also within touching distance of equalling Jake Fraser-McGurk's 29-ball List A century record but missed out by a single shot, ending a spectacular innings just six runs short of a hundred.
