Asian Games: Bangladesh beat Indonesia for second straight win

Bangladesh secured their second consecutive victory in the men's hockey competition at the 20th Asian Games, beating Indonesia 3-1 in their Pool A encounter at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium in Japan today.

Indonesia took an early lead through Fathur Mochamad in the sixth minute, but Bangladesh responded quickly as penalty-corner specialist Amirul Islam equalised five minutes later.

Amirul struck again in the 31st minute to put Bangladesh ahead before Rasel Mahmud Jimmy extended the lead with a fine field goal six minutes later.

The victory follows Bangladesh's 5-1 win over Sri Lanka in their previous match.

Bangladesh had earlier suffered defeats against South Korea and hosts Japan, losing 5-0 and 6-1 respectively.

With the group-stage qualification still at stake, Bangladesh face a crucial final Pool A match against India on September 28.
