Rabindranath’s works come to life in this exhibition through the creations of contemporary artists who were inspired by his unique vision and engage with his timeless ideas.

An exhibition showcasing portraits of Tagore and Nazrul, created by more than 100 students from 13 schools in and around Dhaka, was also held as part of the event.

Organised by the academy’s Fine Arts Department, the exhibition features reproductions of Tagore’s paintings as well as artworks reflecting his literary and philosophical legacy. It will remain open to visitors until May 23, daily from 11am to 8:00pm.

Bangladesh marked the 165th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore yesterday through cultural programmes, discussions, music, poetry recitations, and dance performances held across three major venues in Dhaka.

The first evening of Chhayanaut’s two-day “Rabindra Utsab 1433” unfolded yesterday at the Chhayanaut Milonayoton, as artistes and audiences gathered to celebrate the 1433rd birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore through music, recitation and performance.

His characters feel deeply, sometimes overwhelmingly so, but they do not always understand what they feel, or what others feel in return.

It is easier to preserve the grand aesthetics of Tagore than to confront the difficult ones. Rabindra Sangeet survives in carefully rehearsed cadence, quotations circulate endlessly online, and institutions commemorate him with ritual precision.

The gift Tagore leaves us is not perfection. It takes a lot of courage to even ask the question in the first place. Therefore, let us take up the work he left unfinished, under the same banyan tree he sat under, with the same soft breeze he felt, as the soft afternoon light turns gold when the sun starts to set. Was it his time? Yes. Would he be different today? We will never know. But us, asking, is our tribute.

Organised by the Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha, the 37th edition of the festival will take place at the Liberation War Museum auditorium in Agargaon. Preparations are now in their final stage, with artists engaged in regular rehearsals.
