Plight of a toddler kidnapped across the border
We are simply baffled by the complications the incident has apparently produced. Couldn't the girl of that tender age be returned forthwith to her parents as the mystery got solved in due process? Putting her through such an ordeal, even unwittingly, is repugnant to human sensibilities. The Indian authorities must be knowing that a two-year-old toddler needs her mother the most, not caring at a child centre.
Onus is primarily on the Indian side to end the girl's trauma but there is some responsibility on our side too. The inter-state formalities need to be completed in double-quick time given the emotions associated with the incident. The girl's poor mother wants her baby back at any cost. Isn't that natural for any mother whose little girl has not only been emptied out of her lap but also taken to a foreign country?
We add our voice to the demand of child rights groups for Arifa's expeditious and safe return to her home.
