BCL threatens tough movement

If the government does not withdraw the case, the BCL along with people would wage a tough movement against the ruling coalition, the BCL leaders warned at a protest rally on the Dhaka University campus.

They announced that the BCL would stage a demonstration at Muktangaon in the city on July 8 to protest the harassment of the opposition leaders.

The Bureau of Anti-Corruption recently filed the case against Hasina, Kader, former joint secretary of cultural ministry Asaduzzaman Bhuiyan and architect Iqbal Habib of Vitti Shthopotibreenda Limited on charge of financial irregularities in the construction of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman's grave complex at Tungipara, Gopalganj.

Addressing the protest rally, BCL President Liakat Shikder alleged that the government filed the case only to divert public attention from the irregularities in Thursday's Dhaka-10 by-polls.

The BCL leaders also criticised the government for its failure to check price hike of essentials, curb crimes and to crack down on the extremists across the country.

BCL General Secretary Nazrul Islam Babu, Delwar Hossain, Hemayet Hossain Himu, Shahadat Hossain Sujan, Aparna pal and Nasim-al Momin Rupak also spoke.
