They also demanded reprinting of the Swadhinata Juddher Dalilpatra, official history of the liberation war, with correct information and arrest of the Islamic zealots who issued death threats to noted personalities.

Condemning the new insertion into the 15-volume document that depicts president Ziaur Rahman as the proclaimer of independence, the BCL said it was a clear violation of the constitution.

The Jamaat-e-Islami, as a partner of the ruling alliance, was now taking revenge for its defeat in the Liberation War in 1971 by distorting the history and killing pro-liberation people, said the BCL leaders at a press conference on the Dhaka University campus.

The religious fanatics have issued death threats to many teachers, politicians and journalists as part of their evil design to eliminate all progressive, democratic and non-communal people, they said.

At another press conference, the Chhatra Moitri alleged that the communal forces are strengthening their activities across the country with support from the ruling BNP.

Meanwhile, the Awami League-backed Chhatra League submitted a memorandum to the liberation war affairs ministry demanding deletion of the distorted information.
