Tk 4.5 cr Danish grant for pain management clinics

Tom B. Hansen, Danish Chargé d' Affaires in Dhaka, approved the assistance as part of the Danida Private Sector Development (PSD) Programme.

It said the Multidisciplinary Pain Management Clinics would be established as a technical collaboration between Bio-Consult ApS, Denmark, and Unihealth Limited, Bangladesh.

The Danish support includes training of Bangladeshi doctors in Denmark with Prof. Dr. Lars Arendt-Nielsen, who is operating one of the leading R&D resource bases in the world in the area of Pain Management, which is a growing discipline in the western world.

The Pain Management Clinics will not only diagnose the cause of pain but also treat the pain itself. Some of the common pain problems the clinics will manage include arthritis, back and neck pain, cancer pain, nerve pain, migraine headaches, shingles etc.

The clinics will also manage acute pain caused by surgery, a debilitating illness or a serious injury such as pain after joint replacements, pain during recovery from accidents, and pain following stomach or chest surgery.

"It is expected that thousands of Bangladeshis travelling abroad for expensive treatments lasting several weeks will be able to get the same within the country thereby saving valuable foreign exchange."
