7 killed, 40 injured in road accidents

Seven people were killed and 40 others injured in road accidents in Feni, Gazipur and Bogra yesterday.

A bus-truck collision left three people dead and 30 injured, at Jailaskar on the Feni-Maizdi road, according to the UNB.

Police and locals said the accident occurred at about 2:30pm when a Basurhat bound bus from Feni collided head on with a Feni bound truck at about 2:30pm.

After the accident, local people and nearby BDR men of 31 Battalion rescued the injured people and sent them to Feni Sadar Hospital where three unknown people were declared dead by the on-duty doctors.

The seriously injured are former general secretary of Chhatra Dal Daganbhuiyan unit Saifur Rahman Swapan, Shahidul Islam, Swapan Chandra Das, Imam Hossain Rana, Tipu, Mohammad Khokon, Kamal Hossain, and Imam Hossain.

In Gazipur, a young man and his wife were killed in a traffic accident on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Kaliakoir upazila yesterday.

The dead are Hazibur Rahman, 40, and his wife Maherzan, 30.

Police said Hazibur and Maherzan were seriously injured when a bus hit their rickshaw at Kharajora at about 9:30am.

A road accident on Bogra-Rangpur highway at Bakhopara left two people killed and 10 others injured.

Police said the accident occurred in the area at about 10:00am when a passenger bus collided with a truck, leaving Happy, 55, and Zillur Rahman, 35, dead on the spot and the 10 others injured.
