Humayun Faridee entertained audiences for years, with his brilliance on the stage, television and the silver screen. The eminent actor passed away on this day in 2012.

Directed by Bratya Basu, it is an adaptation of Buddhadeb Guha’s “Baba Howa” and “Swami Howa”. Mosharraf Karim plays a businessman in the film, whose English is weak.

Organised by Drik Picture Library Ltd and Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, the 2021 edition of “Chobi Mela”, begins today. Titled “Chobi Mela Shunno”, the festival started with an inaugural rally at DrikPath Bhobon in the afternoon. At the end of the rally, celebrated photographer Shahidul Alam, along with other curators inaugurated the festival with an introductory discussion on the exhibitions.

Renowned artist Wakilur Rahman’s solo exhibition, “There is no story” is currently underway at Shilpangan Gallery, Dhanmondi.The exhibition features 37 artworks by him, which are dominated by the essence of black and white shades. After being closed for several months due to the ongoing pandemic, Dwip Gallery reopens in February this year with new exhibitions and other events. Prominent poet and painter Shamset Tabrejee’s second solo exhibition, “Random Vignettes”, curated by Mustafa Zaman, will be held at the gallery from February 12 to 26.

“Prem Puran”, a short film directed by young filmmaker Zahid Gogon, is set to release tomorrow on the OTT platform Lagvelki. It is inspired by “The Gift of The Magi” by O' Henry, “Raincoat” by Rituparno Ghosh, “Bhanga Chora” by Zahir Raihan and some true stories of jute mill worker leader Shahid Tajul Islam, who demanded justice for workers in our country. The story is set in Dhaka, Pabna and Kushtia.

Directed by Rouzbeh Heydari, a new thriller film, ‘Neon Lights’, featuring Dana Abraham, Kim Coates, and Brenna Coates among others, is currently in the works. The official teaser trailer of the film was released a few months ago.

“Makeup”, a film directed by Anonno Mamun with Tariq Anam Khan, Ziaul Roshan and Nipa Ahmed Real in prominent roles, was previewed by the Bangladesh Film Censor Board recently. Subsequently, the board members decided to ban the film.

Popular singer James received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine today at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital’s vaccination centre. He was regularly in contact with the hospital since the day that the vaccine reached Bangladesh.

Celebrating their tenth anniversary, Chobi Mela will kick off their special edition this year from February 12. A press conference to announce the special edition, ‘Chobi Mela Shunno (0)’, organised keeping the ongoing pandemic in mind, was held at DrikPath Bhobon in the capital today.

Noted actor Omar Sani has been elected president of Bangladesh Film Club Limited (BFCL) for 2021. The polls were held at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) on February 6. He emerged as the winner after getting 278 votes while his rival candidate Atiqur Rahman Liton got 158 votes.

Celebrating 50 years of Bangladesh, Spanish music composer Robert Bartha composed the song, titled “Through The Tiger's Eye”, featuring ten singers from ten different countries, including Bangladesh, Brazil, Spain, Malta, Sweden and Poland among others. Prominent singer Somnur Monir Konal from Bangladesh lent her voice to the song.

The third instalment of “Bangladesh Film Festival” is underway in Kolkata, India. Inauguration of the five-day event was attended on February 5 by Minister of Information Dr Hasan Mahmud as the chief guest, along with actors Jaya Ahsan, Ferdous, Purnima and Riaz, among others.
