Star Business Report

Excellent Ceramics Group has launched Milano Ceramics, a premium brand inspired by Italian craftsmanship and design, for the Bangladesh market.

Introduced under the theme "Essence of Italian Craft", the brand reflects the company's ambition to bring Italian-inspired aesthetics to the local market while responding to the country's growing demand for high-end ceramic products, Abdul Hakim Sumon, managing director of the group, said at the launch.

For the new brand, Milano Ceramics draws inspiration from the Italian Renaissance, the cultural movement that began in the 14th century and transformed European art, architecture and design, he said.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita attended the launch as the chief guest, which was held at the Hotel InterContinental Dhaka on July 11.

Government officials, diplomats, architects, engineers, business leaders and industry representatives attended the event, along with Excellent Ceramics Group Chairman Abdul Halim and Executive Director Imran Ahmed.

At the event, the civil aviation and tourism minister said the Bangladesh government has always encouraged private sector initiatives that promote industrialisation, expand investment and support sustainable economic development.

The minister also remembered her late father, Harunar Rashid Khan Monno, the founder of Monno Ceramic, for playing an instrumental role in establishing Bangladesh's ceramic industry.

"I came here not as a minister, but as someone from this ceramic sector. I wish Abdul Hakim Sumon every success in business, just as my father achieved in his lifetime."

Md Reazul Islam, chairman of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha, attended the event as the special guest.

Also in attendance were Mohammad Hasan Arif, vice chairman and chief executive of the Export Promotion Bureau; Md Khalequezzaman Choudhury, chief engineer of the Public Works Department; Mahmud Hasan Khan, president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association; Moynul Islam, president of the Bangladesh Ceramic Manufacturers and Exporters Association; Abu Sayeed M Ahmed, president of the Institute of Architects Bangladesh; Md Asifur Rahman Bhuiyan, chief architect of the Department of Architecture; and Jalal Ahmed, principal architect and managing director of Archiconnect.
