Korea-Bangladesh Chamber holds tree plantation programme at Cumilla Economic Zone
The Korea-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KBCCI) today organised a tree plantation programme at the Cumilla Economic Zone at Sonachar in Meghna upazila of Cumilla.
Kim Ji-joon, the South Korean ambassador to Bangladesh, and Shahab Uddin Khan, president of KBCCI, jointly inaugurated the programme, according to a press release.
The event was led by Mostafa Kamal, adviser to KBCCI and chairman of Meghna Group of Industries (MGI).
Mostafa warmly received the distinguished guests, who travelled in a convoy from Dhaka, at the Cumilla Economic Zone.
“We are honoured to host our Korean friends and the members of KBCCI,” he said.
He added, “Industrial growth should be such that the land remains greener than we found it.”
Mostafa expressed hope that the trees planted would stand as a symbol of the enduring partnership between the two countries.
KBCCI hopes this initiative will encourage more businesses to join greening efforts and further strengthen the friendship and partnership between Korea and Bangladesh, the release added.
The guests then planted saplings at the designated site within the industrial zone, reflecting KBCCI’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable industrial growth.
Ambassador Kim said, “Every sapling planted here is a promise to future generations.”
KBCCI President Shahab said the programme demonstrated that economic progress and environmental protection must go hand in hand.
The participants also visited the trees planted in 2024 and toured the facilities of the economic zone.
Ambassador Farooq Sobhan, president of the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute, along with senior officials of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and business leaders from both countries, also attended the programme.
