MetLife Bangladesh has invested Tk 50 crore in the fourth subordinated bond issued by Eastern Bank PLC (EBL), as the insurer seeks to diversify its investment portfolio.

Besides government bonds, the life insurer is increasingly investing in corporate bonds to support sustainable corporate financing while generating long-term returns for its policyholders.

With the latest investment, MetLife’s total investment portfolio has reached approximately Tk 19,000 crore, according to a press release.

Hassan O Rashid, managing director of EBL, said the bank remains focused on leveraging its financial strength and expertise to develop diversified investment opportunities for corporates.

“Subordinated bonds enable us to support responsible business growth, deepen long-term financing in the market, and contribute to Bangladesh’s economic development,” he added.
