Bangladesh team finishes third at global HSBC/HKU Business Case Challenge

A team from Bangladesh University of Professionals has secured the second runner-up position at the HSBC/HKU Business Case Challenge 2026, one of the world's leading undergraduate business competitions.

The competition, jointly organised by HSBC and the University of Hong Kong, brought together top university teams from around the world to solve real-world business challenges.

The Bangladesh team consisted of Shakhawat Salim, Naveed Abrar, Md Ridwan Sakib Anjum and Mohammad Faiyad Hossain, all students of Bangladesh University of Professionals. They qualified for the global finals after winning the national Business Case Competition 2026 organised by HSBC Bangladesh and BRAC University in April.

The final round was held in Hong Kong from June 1 to 5 and featured 24 undergraduate teams selected from more than 12,000 students who competed in local rounds across Asia-Pacific and other regions.

This year's competition focused on four business challenges, including managing leadership risks at an investment firm, sustaining growth for a consumer brand, promoting public understanding of stablecoins, and expanding a fashion brand into a global business.

A team from Australia won the championship, while Thailand finished as first runner-up. Bangladesh secured third place overall.

David Liao, Co-Chief Executive, Asia and the Middle East at HSBC, said the programme has empowered more than 100,000 students worldwide since 2008, and this year, HSBC was thrilled to welcome 24 teams from 20 markets across Asia and the Middle East, offering them a unique experience that bridges rigorous financial analysis with immersion in Hong Kong’s rich local culture and history.

In Bangladesh, the HSBC Business Case Competition has engaged more than 70,000 university students over the past 14 years. Since Bangladesh first joined the global competition in 2012, HSBC has supported 48 students in representing the country at the international finals in Hong Kong.

Commenting on the achievement, Md Mahbub ur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer, HSBC Bangladesh, said, “Seeing Bangladesh stand tall among the world's top performers is a proud moment for us all. This milestone proves the exceptional caliber of our youth and underscores why we must continue investing in their real-world business acumen. As a global bank, we are uniquely positioned to open these doors for the next generation. Warmest congratulations to the team on a phenomenal performance!”
