Campaign for family planning begins Dec 1
The government will launch a year-long nationwide family planning campaign from December 1 to bring back the momentum and encourage people to adopt birth control measures, Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain said yesterday.
The minister announced the programme at a press conference at the Secretariat.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the campaign which will run till November 30, 2027, he also said.
The move came as the government’s family planning programme lost momentum in recent years.
The supply of free family planning materials gradually declined after the pandemic and fell sharply after June 2024, when the programme that funded procurement of the materials ended.
Besides, severe field-level manpower shortages of Directorate General of Family Planning (DGFP) hampered the programme through limited distribution of contraceptive materials and inadequate counseling of couples on family planning methods.
DGFP is expected to receive contraceptive materials by this November under a project launched in November last year.
