BNP leader arrested on subversion charge
Police arrested a local BNP leader in Eidgah area under Dupchanchia upazila of the district early Monday.
The arrestee is Abdul Hamid, 55, president of the upazila unit of BNP, and son of Abdul Jalil Uddin of Dupchanchia municipality area.
He is accused in three cases, including those for arson and vandalism, said Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Dupchanchia Police Station.
The arrestee was later produced before a court that sent him to jail, said the OC.
In Sylhet, police arrested a man in Lamakazi area under Bishwanath upazila of the district on Monday on charge of murder, arson attack and subversive activities, reports UNB.
The arrestee is Shahin Ahmad, 41, acting president of Bishwanath upazila Sramik Kalyan Federation, and son of late Nurul Islam of Satpur village of the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Islam of Bishwanath Police Station said law enforcers, acting on a tip-off, conducted a drive in the area and arrested Shahin in the afternoon.
