Criminal cuts girl's cheek, tendon for refusing 'love'

A criminal cut the cheek and the tendon of a hand of a schoolgirl at Pathantek village of Bormi union under Sreepur upazila in the district on Saturday night.

The victim, Laboni Akter, 13, daughter of Ripon Miah, a CNG driver of the area, is a Class VII student of Bormi Ideal School.

The victim's mother Rokeya Begum said Suzon Miah, 20, son of Abdul Mazid of neighbouring Beldia village, had been proposing to Laboni to have an affair, but she did not agree.

On Saturday night, Laboni's father went out to drive CNG auto-rickshaw and her mother went to Dhaka Medical College Hospital to see a patient. When Laboni was sleeping in her room with her cousin Rima on Saturday night, Suzon entered the room by breaking the door. He cut her cheek and the tendons of a hand, and hit her with a sharp weapon.

Hearing Laboni's screams, the neighbours rescued her and sent her to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex. Later, she was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Model Police Station, said police visited the spot after getting the news and they were trying to arrest Suzon. No case was filed with the police station in this connection.
