Criminals kill cattle trader, take away Tk 50,000
Criminals stabbed a cattle trader to death and took away Tk 50,000 from him at Pujkhola village in Amtali upazila of Barguna district on Monday night.
The victim is Farid Uddin, 33, son of Abu Hawlader of the village.
Police quoted victim's family members as saying that a gang of 4/5 attacked Farid with sharp weapons while he along with his maternal uncle Musa Sharif was returning home from nearby Banati cattle market around 10:00pm, leaving him dead on the spot.
Musa, however, escaped unhurt from the spot and informed the villagers and the police.
Police went to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Barguna General Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Pulok Chandra Roy, OC of Amtali Police Station.
Away in Gaibandha, armed robbers looted 17 cattle from different dwelling houses at Purbo Khatiyamari village in Fulchhari upazila early yesterday.
Police said a gang entered several cowsheds owned by different villagers around 3:00am, took the family members hostage at gun-point and took away the cattle by engine boats.
Earlier, on Monday, police detained one Sanowar, 27, a member of a robbers' gang from Kochkhali area in the upazila, said Atiar Rahman, officer-in-charge of Fulchhari Police Station.
Sanowar is an accused in a number of cases, including those for robbery, with different police stations of the district, the OC added.
