Three accused in murder case held with bombs

Police on Monday arrested three people on charge of killing a man at Dhorebona village in Shibganj upazila of the district and seized hand bombs from their possession.

The arrestees are Saiful Islam, 30, and his brother Tosikul Islam, 23, sons of Nantu Mondal, and Mohammad Sukuddi, 35, son of Soleman of Mordona village in the upazila.

Locals said there had been a longstanding conflict between Abdus Salam, a councillor of Shibagnj municipality, and former councillor Shafiqul Islam over supremacy in the area.

On August 15, Shafiqul's men suddenly attacked Rabiul, a supporter of Salam, with sharp weapons when he was working in his crop field at around 1:00pm.

Locals rushed critically injured Rabiul to Shibganj Upazila Health Complex. As his condition deteriorated, the doctors referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he died at around 5:00pm.

Later, the victim's father filed a murder case, accusing 23 people including Saiful, Tosikul, 23 and Sukuddi with Shibganj Police Station. They had been absconding since then.

On information, police went to Dhorebona village at around 4:45am and raided a house. They arrested the three from there and seized 11 handmade bombs and sharp weapons from their possession.
