Youth killed over land dispute

A youth was killed by his uncle over a land dispute at Belon village under Kaliganj upazila of the district yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Zillur Rahman, 32, son of Bakul Miah of the village. He was an expatriate in Dubai and came home two weeks ago.

 Locals and Sub-Inspector Shafikul Islam of Kaliganj Police Station said there was a longstanding dispute over the ownership of a land between Anisur Rahman and his brother Bakul Miah.

When Zillur went to a bamboo cluster near his house to cut bamboo, his uncle Anisur Rahman, 52, his wife Sobina Begum, 45, and their son Ujjal, 28, tried to prevent him from cutting bamboo.

They locked in an altercation over the issue and, at one stage, Anisur and Ujjal hit Zillur with an iron rod, leaving him dead on the spot.

Zillur's wife Morsheda was seriously injured when she came forward to save her husband. Neighbours rescued Morsheda and sent her to Gazipur Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital.
