‘I am grateful that my films have reached three major festivals’: Badhan

Azmeri Haque Badhan is set to make her third appearance on the international film festival circuit. This time, the she is heading to the Venice International Film Festival, where her film “The Difficult Bride” has been selected for the competition section.

The selection is a proud moment not only for Bangladesh but also for Badhan as an actor. It marks her third major international film festival appearance with a film.

Badhan first stepped onto the international stage with “Rehana Maryam Noor”. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and received widespread appreciation. It also travelled to several other international festivals, bringing Badhan considerable recognition as an artiste.

Her next major international outing came with “Master”. The film won an award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and received critical appreciation. Badhan’s performance was also praised, further strengthening her position as an artiste on the international stage.

Now, with “The Difficult Bride”, Badhan is preparing for another major festival appearance. She is travelling to Venice today to attend the festival.

Speaking about the opportunity, Badhan said she is happy and excited to be part of the film’s journey. “It is an achievement for me, for everyone involved with the film and, at the same time, for Bangladesh.”

For Badhan, each international festival has been a different experience. She feels fortunate that her work has reached three major film festivals.
“There is a different journey behind each of them. It feels really good when my work reaches major festivals and receives people’s love. I am grateful to the Almighty that my films have reached three major film festivals,” she said.

However, Badhan’s role in “The Difficult Bride” is relatively small. She admitted that she initially had confusions about taking on a smaller role, but eventually decided to do it. “I have played a small character in this film. I wondered whether I should take on such a small role. But I agreed to do it. Now I feel that I am part of a good film,” she said.

Badhan also praised director Rubaiyat Hossain. She described her as an exceptional director and said she was delighted to see the filmmaker’s work reach the Venice International Film Festival. “She knows how to respect an artiste. That is what I like most about her. She respects people, not just as artistes but as human beings,” Badhan said.

The actress is also very optimistic about how the audience will receive it. “I strongly believe that the audience will understand this film. I believe it will earn a good reputation,” she said.

Badhan is also preparing for several new projects. She is scheduled to shoot a new film titled “Gulshaner Chameli” later this year. She is also set to act in two new films next year, both of which are government-funded productions. “There are some good projects ahead. I believe they will be good,” she said.

For Badhan, however, the biggest achievement is not simply being part of major festivals. It is finding the kind of films she has always wanted to work in. “The biggest achievement for me is that I am getting the kind of films I want to work in,” she said.
