Nuhash Humayun wins Best Director for ‘Dui Shaw’ in Critics’ Choice
Acclaimed filmmaker Nuhash Humayun bagged the Critics' Choice award for Best Director (Film, Drama, or Series) for Chorki’s original horror anthology "Dui Shaw" at the "Blender's Choice-The Daily Star OTT & Digital Content Awards 2025" on Friday evening (October 9).
The annual gala, held at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Center (BCFCC), celebrated the nation’s finest accomplishments in streaming and digital media.
A spiritual successor to his acclaimed folklore-horror project "Pett Kata Shaw", "Dui Shaw" shifts the lens to modern-day psychological terrors, dissecting themes of fate, morality, and systemic dread through four standalone episodes—"Waqt", "Bhaggo Bhalo", "Antara", and "Besura". With sharp storytelling and inventive visual direction, the anthology holds up a mirror to society's most unsettling impulses, exposing the real monsters within the human psyche.
"There are stories we inherit through myths and local legends, but 'Dui Shaw' aims to uncover the darker corners of our everyday lives and human nature," noted Nuhash when reflecting on the project's thematic turn.
The series' bold narrative approach has earned international acclaim. "Dui Shaw" made its North American premiere at the prestigious Fantasia International Film Festival in Canada to sold-out screenings.
Festival curators lauded the young auteur for elevating Bangladeshi horror onto the global stage, marking Humayun's third showcase at the world-renowned genre festival alongside his previous award-winning titles "Moshari" and "Foreigners Only".
