Remembering Farooque through his timeless songs with Bobita and Kabori
Today marks the birth anniversary of legendary actor Farooque. He was born on this day in 1948. He made his big-screen debut with “Jolchhobi”, directed by H Akbar. In 1975, he won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. In 2016, he was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The acclaimed actor passed away on May 15, 2023.
Among Farooque’s notable films are “Sareng Bou”, “Lathial”, “Sujon Sokhi”, “Nayanmoni”, “Miya Bhai”, “Golapi Ekhon Traine”, “Saheb”, “Abar Tora Manush Ho”, “Alor Michil”, “Din Jay Kotha Thake”, “Sokhi Tumi Kar”, “Kotha Dilam” and “Surjo Grohon”, among others.
Farooque starred opposite many leading actresses throughout his career. Among them, the songs from his films with Babita and Kabori became particularly popular with audiences. Here are some of the memorable songs from their films.
Babita
One of the most popular on-screen pairs in Bangla cinema, Babita and Farooque appeared together in around 40 films.
Some of their most successful films include “Nayanmoni”, “Golapi Ekhon Traine”, “Lathial”, “Alor Michil”, “Dumur Phool”, “Priyo Bandhobi” and “Etim”.
‘Chul Dhoirona Khopa Khule Jabe’
The song “Chul Dhoirona Khopa Khule Jabe” from “Nayanmoni”, starring Farooque and Bobita and directed by Amjad Hossain, was sung by Sabina Yasmin. The lyrics were written by Gazi Mazharul Anwar, while the music was composed by Satya Saha.

Kabori
Farooque and Kabori were one of the most beloved pairs of the golden era of Bangla cinema. Together, they starred in several audience-favourite films, including “Sujon Sokhi” and “Sareng Bou”.
