Sabyasachi Chakraborty returns to Satyajit Ray’s stories with Sandip Ray

Sabyasachi Chakraborty is set to return to the screen in a new project directed by Sandip Ray and based on selected short stories by Satyajit Ray.

The veteran actor, best known to generations of Bengali audiences for playing Feluda after Soumitra Chatterjee, had eventually stepped away from the role. He will now reunite with Sandip Ray, who directed him in several Feluda films and other projects.

Sandip Ray has previously adapted his father’s short stories for television through projects such as “Satyajit-er Priyo Golpo” and “Satyajit-er Goppo”. The new project will similarly draw from Satyajit Ray’s short fiction.

Details about the production remain under wraps. It has not yet been decided whether the project will be made for television, an OTT platform, or another medium. The specific Ray story and the character Sabyasachi will play have also not been disclosed.

According to reports, production could begin towards the end of this year if the plans proceed as scheduled.

Sabyasachi was most recently seen in a series from the “Advocate Achinta Aich” franchise, in which he played a lawyer opposite Ritwick Chakraborty.

The actor first took on the role of Feluda in Sandip Ray’s “Baksho Rahashya” in 1996 and went on to reprise the character in several films, including “Bombaiyer Bombete” and “Double Feluda”.
