Tareq Ahmed to join Mumbai Int’l Film Festival as international juror

Dhaka DocLab Director and Festival Director of Liberation DocFest Bangladesh Tareq Ahmed has been invited to attend the 17th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) as one of the international jury members.

The oldest film festival of short and documentary films in South Asia has been organised by the Film Division of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting by the Government of India since 1990.

This is the first time that a Bangladeshi film personality has been invited as a judge in the international competition category at the prestigious biennial festival, which will be held from May 29 to June 4, 2022.

On the occasion of the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence, Bangladesh has been selected as the theme country in this year's festival. And 11 Bangladeshi short and documentary films will be screened at the event.

These include three Bangladeshi short story films - Amitabh Reza Chowdhury's "Silence", Suvarna Senjuti Tushir's "Ripples" and Abu Saheed Eman's "Araimon Shopno". Eight documentaries - Shabnam Firdausi's "Born Together", Dilara Begum Jolly's "Jotherlina", Humaira Bilkis's "Garden of Memories", Ratan Pal's "Dojahan", Maqbool Chowdhury's "Not a Peni Not a Gun", Sumon Delwar's "Jowal", (Nou Comando), Mofidul Haque's "Kaan Pet Roi" (Sound of Silence) and Piplu R Khan's "Hasina: A Daughter's Tale" will be shown.

Ahmed was nominated as the 'Decision Maker' for the first time from Bangladesh in the 'Docs in Progress' section of the Marshe du Film at the Cannes Film Festival and at AIDC, a major event for nonfiction content in Australia, one of the most prestigious films of world cinema last year.
