The joy of Eid peaked in childhood: Afzal Hossain

Arts & Entertainment Desk

Acting legend and Ekushey Padak winner Afzal Hossain is spending a quiet Eid this year. We talk to the actor about his memories of Eid, future projects, and more.

How are you spending Eid this year?

I am spending time with my family. I offered Eid prayers at a mosque in  Dhanmondi – I am not going anywhere this Eid, as my mother is ill.

Tell us about your memories of Eid when you were little.

The joy of Eid truly peaked when I was little – I will never forget the memories. In my village, the doors of every house was open to all the kids, and we enjoyed a lot.

We didn't get much 'Salami', but my grandfather gave me some money. I was always excited for that.

As adults, our responsibilities often get the better of us.

Tell us about your recent work.

I've been directing the 'Choto Kaku' series for a long time, derived from the story written by Faridur Reza Sagar. This year's episode is called "Syed  Saheb of Syedpur".  The play was made for all ages, especially children.

In our time, we read a lot of mystery novels – and I hope that children can derive as much fun out of it.

Do you plan to make a film out of 'Choto Kaku'?

I'll tell you something funny. After the success of the series, clubs named 'Choto Kaku' have popped up all over the country – it makes me really happy!

As for a film, there certainly are plans for one.
