‘The Little Mermaid’ trailer hits 1.5 million dislikes on YouTube in 2 days
Disney released the live action trailer for "The Little Mermaid" this weekend, at the D23 Expo fan convention, to a lot of excitement. However, within just two days, the hype has transformed into outrage.
As of Tuesday night, the trailer for the movie has accumulated more than 1.5 million dislikes on YouTube.
Social media users have stirred up a storm, commenting that the visual effects in the trailer are not up to par, and that it does not look like Ariel is actually under the ocean.
In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, Halle Bailey recently shared how important the role of Ariel was for her.
"The fact that now it's getting to be played by me, a person who looks like me, woman of colour, I'm just like, wow, I'm so grateful for what it will do for all the other little Black and brown boys and girls who will see themselves in me," said the actress.
The live action version of "The Little Mermaid" has also cast Melissa McCarthy, Jonah Houer-King, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, Javier Bardem, Daveed Diggs, and Simone Ashley, among others.
