65-yr-old held over attempted rape of child

Police arrested a 65-year-old man yesterday for allegedly attempting to rape an 11-year-old girl at Telipara village in Kurigram’s Rajarhat upazila.

The accused, Ayub Ali, was reportedly caught in the act by locals, who beat him up before handing him over to police.

According to police and locals, Ayub called the child to his house when no one else was home yesterday morning  and allegedly attempted to rape her. Hearing the child’s screams, nearby residents rushed to the spot, rescued her, and detained the accused. Later, police arrived at the scene and took Ayub into custody.

The victim’s father has filed a case with Rajarhat Police Station.

Rajarhat Police Station OC Mamunur Rashid said, “A chargesheet will be submitted to court soon.”
