Man arrested for allegedly throwing dog into Meghna river
Police in Narsingdi have arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly tying a brick around a dog’s neck and throwing it into a river after a video of the incident circulated on social media.
The accused, Mohammad Ali, was detained from his house this afternoon.
ARM Mamun, officer-in-charge of Narsingdi Sadar Model Police Station, confirmed the arrest.
According to police, a video posted today on the Facebook page of Animal Community Welfare of Bangladesh showed a man tying a rope around a dog’s neck, attaching a brick to the other end, and throwing the animal from Nagariakandi Bridge into the Meghna River. The incident reportedly occurred around noon on June 24.
As the footage spread rapidly online, district police authorities launched an investigation, identified the suspect, and carried out an operation leading to his arrest, said OC Mamun.
The condition and fate of the dog could not be immediately confirmed.
