Police recovered the bodies of four people from separate locations in Savar over the past 30 hours and launched investigations into the deaths.

In the latest incident, police recovered the body of garment worker Akhi Akter, 24, from a rented house in the Pallibidyut area of Ashulia this morning.

Akhi, daughter of Abed Ali of Jhenaigati upazila in Sherpur, lived in a rented room at Haji Khalek's house in Ashulia, while her husband, Jahid Hasan, 27, lived elsewhere.

According to police, Jahid allegedly stabbed Akhi multiple times following an argument over a family dispute and his suspicion that she was involved in an extramarital relationship.

Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tariqul Islam said police recovered the body from a bed after receiving information about the incident.

After being detained for questioning, Jahid confessed to stabbing her wife, he added.

In a separate incident, police recovered the body of homemaker Roksana Begum, 40, from the rooftop of her family's building in the Koltasuti Morichkata area of Shimulia union late last night.

Roksana, wife of expatriate Makbul Hossain, lived with her children on the third floor of the five-storey building.

Quoting family members, Ashulia Police Station Sub-Inspector Nur Amin said Roksana went to the rooftop around 8:30pm to check the water tank but did not return. Her relatives later found her body on the rooftop, covered with an empty sack.

Police found six sharp injury marks below her left ear and another on her back during the inquest, he said.

Roksana's elder brother, Ikra, filed a case over the incident, he added.

Meanwhile, police recovered the body of Tariqul, 38, originally from Gopalganj, from a rented house in the Eastern Housing area of Jamgora yesterday afternoon.

Police recovered his body hanging from a ceiling fan with a plastic rope around his neck.

Quoting his wife, Ashulia Police Station SI Md Nazmul Haque said Tariqul had become heavily indebted after developing an addiction to online gambling.

In another incident, police recovered the body of garment worker Tania Khatun, 25, from her rented room in Baidgaon Balartek of Kabirpur yesterday.

Neighbours found her lying motionless on a bed after noticing that the room door was open in the early hours of the morning.

Ashulia Police Station SI Md Jahangir Alam said police found dark marks on both sides of her neck and reddish marks below her throat.

“Initially, we suspect that she was strangled to death,” he said.

Family members were coming from Satkhira, and a case would be filed after their arrival, he added.
