Radda Centre Attack: MP’s alleged role being probed

An investigation is underway into the alleged involvement of a member of parliament in the attack on the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur-1, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said yesterday.

Without naming anyone, he said that no one would be spared if their involvement was found to be true.

He made the remarks at a press briefing after a meeting on law and order ahead of Durga Puja at the ministry’s conference room at the Secretariat.

Heavy machinery was used to dismantle a tin-roofed structure and three semi-concrete buildings of the health centre early Friday. The attackers also took away furniture, medicines, an ultrasonography machine, a generator, computers, printers, refrigerators, and air conditioners, among other items.

According to the statement of the case filed over the incident, the damage to the facility amounted to more than Tk 1 crore. A signboard of “Samomona Dokandar Samabay Samity Ltd” was also put up on the centre premises.

Locals alleged that Ferdousy Ahmed Mishti, a former member of the Samity, was involved in the incident. She, however, denied the allegation while talking to The Daily Star earlier.

The home minister said the officer-in-charge of Shah Ali Police Station had been withdrawn and departmental action was being taken against him.

“Some of those who went there as criminals may have political identities. But we will never take that into consideration. They have been arrested and legal action has been taken against them.”

Police have so far arrested 12 people, including the Samity’s Secretary Shah Alam Gazi, in connection with the incident.
