Mission Achrga, a 31-year-old graduate from Jhenaidah whose appointment had been stalled over verification of his permanent address, is set to join as an assistant teacher at a government primary school following an instruction from Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon.

Mission passed both the written and viva examinations for government primary school teacher recruitment, but his appointment process was put on hold because authorities could not verify his permanent address, although his family has lived in the same neighbourhood for more than four decades.

Today, the education minister instructed Shahina Ferdousi, director general of the Directorate of Primary Education, and Mohammad Amzad Hossain, acting district primary education officer (DPEO) of Jhenaidah, to complete Mission’s appointment process quickly.

DPEO Amzad confirmed the development to this correspondent this afternoon.

“The minister gave instructions over the phone to the director general of the Directorate of Primary Education and to me. We are moving forward positively on the matter, and the next steps are under way,” Amzad said.

Shahina Ferdousi told The Daily Star, “The DPEO has received overall instructions in this regard. He will take the necessary steps.”

Speaking to The Daily Star, Mission said he met the education minister with the assistance of the prime minister’s political assistant, Rashed Khan.

He said Milon assured him that necessary steps would be taken regarding his appointment.

Rashed Khan told this correspondent that he came to know about the matter after The Daily Star published a report on it.

“Today, I spoke to the primary and mass education minister and took Mission with me to meet him. The minister then instructed the relevant officials to complete his appointment process quickly. There is no scope for this issue to tarnish the government’s image,” he said.

Mission, a resident of the Kalabagan area of Jhenaidah town, is the younger son of 62-year-old Mayna Achrga. Mayna earlier said she had lived there for more than 45 years, raising her two sons as a single mother. She is also a registered voter, with her National Identity Card listing Kalabagan as her permanent address.

According to family members, Mission passed his SSC examination from Jhenaidah Kanchannagar School in 2010 and completed his HSC from Shishukunj School and College. He later earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in finance and banking from Islamic University.
