Alarming rise in C-section rate
We should be concerned at the recent revelation made by Save the Children regarding C-sections: 77 percent of C-Sections carried out across the country last year were medically unnecessary. Why this level of intolerance?
The attack on Ducsu VP Nurul Haque Nur, along with several other quota reformists and at least one journalist, allegedly by a group of Chhatra League activists in Bogura on May 26, is condemnable.

Reckless drivers getting off scot-free!
A report in this daily yesterday shed light on the fact that only five percent of cases relating to road accidents result in conviction. The report also makes a mindboggling revelation: often times, the reason behind the accused getting away scot-free is law enforcers themselves.

It is very disappointing to learn that 10 years into the HC directive to form sexual harassment complaint committees at every educational institution and workplace, only 40 percent schools have complied.

Unfit river vessels spruced up for Eid
Whenever Eid-ul-Fitr looms on the horizon, it is common to find operators of river vessels scampering to meet the high volume of passengers.

What does govt’s zero-tolerance policy mean?
We wonder what the State Minister for Foreign Affairs has meant by saying that the government has taken a zero-tolerance policy to prevent illegal migration.
22 May 2019
HC intervention timely
We thank the High Court (HC) for speaking out on the issue when it observed that the BB has been working in favour of loan defaulters; which has been in the public mind for a long time that undue privileges are being given to large-scale loan defaulters whilst penalising smaller ones.

Empower the river commission
We are surprised at the indifference of a private company to the government orders as it is building two slipways in the Meghna river in Munshiganj’s Gazaria upazila

Pay farmers the due price
Success in production normally brings a bonanza in profit, but not so in Bangladesh. Every time there is a good harvest of rice, the farmers have to brace for a shock of fall in the price.
