A huge part of the innovations in the digital world came from garages that held the likes of Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Larry Page. The latter capitalised on the world of free internet. Facebook itself happened because of the internet being a free medium for all. If innovators are not given a level ground to reach the people, how on earth will we go forward to remain competitive in the modern world?
The internet, at this point, is not a luxury or a service for those who can afford it. It's a utility just like a phone connection. It has become a foundation for knowledge now and it cannot be compartmentalised and be sold to the highest bidder.
