Salahuddin, Ashraful reunite at Fortune in D3

Former Bangladesh national team senior assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin was picked as Fortune’s head coach, with current national team batting coach Mohammad Ashraful and Abdul Karim Juel picked as his assistants during the inaugural team management draft for the upcoming D3 competition in Mirpur yesterday.

Both Salahuddin and Ashraful had previous experience of working for the Tigers together.

ACE Blue Star picked Sohel Islam as their head coach, with Salahuddin Ahmed Uzzal and Ashiqur Rahman Majumder named as assistant coaches. Acme, meanwhile, named Rajin Saleh as head coach, with Tarek Aziz Khan and Foysal Hossain Decans as his assistants.

Walton picked former national team spinner Abdur Razzak as their head coach, with Tushar Imran and Dollar Mahmud as assistants, while Citizens Bank named Mizanur Rahman Babul as head coach, with Nazmul Hossain and Mohammad Salim as his assistants.

Seven Rings Cement, meanwhile, picked national team pace bowling coach Talha Jubaer as head coach, with Hannan Sarkar and Humayun Kabir named as assistants.

During the draft ceremony, the six teams were provided with a list of 35 coaches from which they selected their respective coaching staff. Apart from a head coach and two assistants, each team also picked a physio, a strength and conditioning coach, and an analyst.

Among the notable picks, national team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan Bayzid was picked by Fortune, while former national team strength and conditioning coach Iftikharul Islam was roped in by Seven Rings Cement. National team analyst Shaon Jahan was also picked by Seven Rings Cement.

According to the BCB officials, teams will be allowed to bring in new coaches to their coaching staff if any of their selected coaches are unavailable due to national team commitments or other reasons.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) launched the D3 competition on Sunday in a bid to generate renewed interest in the country's domestic cricket and unveiled the six participating teams.

The six teams will compete across three formats, with 42 matches scheduled in total -- seven four-day games, 16 one-day matches and 19 T20s.

The T20 tournament will begin on December 15, followed by the four-day competition in January and the one-day tournament in May next year.
