Rajshahi Stars sign off with 8-0 rout
Rajshahi Stars FC ended their maiden AFC Women’s Champions League campaign on a winning note, thrashing Rovers FC of Guam 8-0 in their third and final group-stage preliminary match at Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, on Sunday.
The Bangladesh Women’s Football League champions, featuring several national team players, had hoped to reach the main stage but endured a difficult debut in the continent’s top-flight club competition. They began with a 4-0 defeat to India’s East Bengal before suffering a 2-1 loss to Malaysia’s Sabah FC.
Already eliminated from the tournament, Rajshahi Stars played without pressure and dominated Rovers, who had conceded 25 goals in their first two matches. They completed their campaign in style, with Tohura Khatun scoring a hat-trick.
Forward Shamsunnar Jr added a brace, while Monika Chakma and Shamsunnahar Sr also got on the scoresheet. Marlena Connelley completed the rout with an own goal.
