The records Haaland could break if he scores against PSG tonight

For those who cannot always catch a Manchester City game live, there is usually one question waiting for someone who did: “Has Haaland scored?” It has become something of a ritual, and with good reason. The Norwegian has made scoring goals look so routine that it is often the first thing people want to know about a City game.

The 26-year-old rarely leaves a competition untouched by his scoring prowess, and the Champions League is no different.

Manchester City host reigning champions PSG at the Etihad Stadium tonight, with Haaland once again in the spotlight amid a host of attacking talent on both sides. He scored in the same fixture in January last year, although City lost 4-2, and will be looking to make his mark again.

Haaland's returns in Europe have been quite ridiculous. He has scored 59 goals in 59 Champions League appearances. Of those, 36 have come in 40 games for City. And one more tonight would take him past Sergio Aguero, who scored 36 goals in 64 appearances, and make the 26-year-old City's outright top scorer in the competition.  He has been particularly prolific in the group stage and league phase, scoring 42 goals in 39 appearances -- more than any player since his Champions League debut in the 2019-20 season.

There is another milestone within reach. One goal would take Haaland level with former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy on 60 Champions League goals. Two or more would move him into outright seventh place on the competition's all-time scoring list. Ahead of him are Cristiano Ronaldo (141 goals in 183 games), Lionel Messi (129 in 163), Robert Lewandowski (109 in 144), Karim Benzema (90 in 152), and Kylian Mbappe and Raul, who have both scored 71 -- Mbappe in 99 appearances and Raul in 142.

PSG have had the better of Haaland in recent meetings, winning two of their last three Champions League encounters with City. The Norwegian has still managed to score three times across those games. He will also be back on favoured territory at the Etihad, where 23 of his 36 Champions League goals for City have come -- almost 64 percent of his total for the Manchester club.

Among the many goalscoring records he has broken, one came in City’s 2-0 win away at Porto in their Champions League opener last month. His brace took him past Tommy Johnson to become City's third-highest goalscorer across all competitions, with 170 goals in 206 appearances since joining in 2022. He is seven behind Eric Brook, who has 177, while Aguero remains City's all-time leading scorer with 260.

Haaland has started this season much as he finished the last, with eight goals in as many appearances across all competitions after netting 38 goals in 2025-26. He leads the Premier League scoring charts with six goals after as many matches, including one in Sunday's statement 3-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield.
