Imams' call for sanity

Suicide bombers are the height of extremist zealotry that makes people wondering at the vicious extent to which religion is misinterpreted to suit the destructive agenda of a handful in a traditionally peaceful country like Bangladesh. The Imams have very rightly called the attackers the enemies of Islam. Obviously, nothing can be more damaging for our image than such senseless and barbaric activities which are against the very essence of the religion that the majority of the country follow.

Islam is a religion of peace, having no place whatsoever for the insanity, even among a minuscule that we are watching at the moment. Why must we allow a tiny minority to wreak havoc on the lives of the majority who are peace-loving and constructive people.

The campaign against religious fanaticism has to be a sustained one, and the Imams should renew the call to resist the militants whenever they can and help forge a strong public opinion against the evil that has already cost us many lives.
